Who We Are

From ideation to execution, every word read and tool used here is the result of countless hours of collaboration, creativity, and commitment to spreading the message of degrowth. This page is a tribute to everyone who has contributed their expertise, insights, and unwavering support to make our vision a reality.

Hi there, I'm JP, a descendant of European settlers in México, now making my home in Paris. I've dedicated myself to using the privilege I hold to pursue a world where people collectively plan the fair distribution of resources to provide well-being for all within ecological limits. My journey has led me to the heart of the degrowth movement, a space where I have felt welcomed and loved. I believe there is a lot of work ahead of us, and I just hope this project can help push us a little bit closer to our goals.

I am also happy to let you all know that the Communications Circle of the International Degrowth Network (IDN) has agreed to take on ownership and maintenance of this website to ensure its long-term sustainability and democratic management.

I want to emphasise that the IDN does not currently endorse any of the content on the site, as it is still under internal review.

Creating, designing, and curating the content for this website has been a labour of love, guided by the belief that empathy, humility and accessible knowledge are crucial for our struggle. This project is a testament to the collaborative spirit of the degrowth movement, involving dozens of individuals and organisations who share a vision for a sustainable and equitable future. Their invaluable, beautiful and selfless contributions are recognised and celebrated below.

The journey of this project has been shaped and enriched by the generous support, encouragement and invaluable advice, content, ideas, suggestions, and edits provided by a remarkable community of individuals and organisations. Below, we celebrate and thank each one of them for their commitment to this project.

A special thanks to Ernesto Arellano, Chantal Baeza, Dani Arellano, Jero Arellano, y Andy Arellano for their unfaltering love, support and encouragement. And thank you to my best friend, Ghislaine Fandel.

Lastly, I want to mention that I am only human and with limited capacities. The website is by no means perfect or complete. It also reflects my own biases and contexts. Even though I am from Mexico, I feel it still reflects a very Global North perspective on degrowth and I will strive and continue to work on making the content more diverse, inclusive, anti-imperialist/supremacist and decolonial.

You can of course help me/us here! Please please reach out to explore@degrowth.net for suggestions, edits, additions, etc. This is indeed meant to be collaborative ;)

I hope this is useful and helps our ideas and values spread <3

Love, hugs, solidarity and care to you all,

JP
