Why We're Here

At the heart of this project lies a bold endeavour: to challenge prevailing narratives with the transformative vision of degrowth. Recognizing the vast power of media and the urgent need for accessible, nuanced dialogues about our future, it aims to provide tools and knowledge for meaningful discourse.

In the intricate web of today’s global society, the stories we tell about our world shape the very fabric of reality. Yet, too often, these narratives are dictated by a narrow set of interests, obscuring the diverse, rich tapestry of human experience. These powerful entities deploy sophisticated propaganda to cultivate complacency, steering public consciousness away from the urgent systemic changes needed to avert ecological and societal collapse and maintain the status quo.

Recognising this, our project was born from the need to broaden the conversation, democratise the narrative space, and act as a counter-narrative, a deliberate effort to pierce through this veil of misinformation. We hope to offer a space for exploration, education, and the envisioning of a sustainable and equitable future.

At the heart of our initiative is a profound commitment to empathy. We recognise that many have been ensnared by a lifetime of stories that glorify unchecked capitalism, Western imperialism, and relentless growth, narratives that have painted a skewed vision of what it means to lead a fulfilling life. It is crucial to approach these deeply ingrained beliefs with understanding and compassion, acknowledging the complexity of unlearning and the vulnerability it entails. Our platform is conceived as a welcoming space for reflection and dialogue, where the challenges and aspirations of everyday working people are acknowledged and valued. It’s a call to embrace empathy, not just as a concept but as a practice.

This is a call for collective action; against us stand formidable forces deeply entrenched in maintaining a harmful status quo. Yet, together, we hold the potential to forge a new path, one marked by collaboration, solidarity, and care. The journey toward systemic change is fraught with challenges, yet it is within our collective power to enact meaningful transformation. By weaving together a tapestry of diverse voices, experiences, and insights, our project seeks to catalyse a movement that transcends individual efforts and that embraces diverse voices and perspectives. It's an invitation to contribute to a chorus of change, to stand united in the face of adversity, and to reimagine what is possible when we commit to acting in concert.

At the core of our mission is the belief that knowledge should be accessible to all, serving as a foundation for empowerment, informed dialogue, and transformative action. Our website is not just a repository of information; it's a living, breathing community of ideas, a place where complex concepts like degrowth are unpacked and explored in ways that resonate with everyday experiences and aspirations. To this end, we offer tools and resources designed to facilitate effective communication, foster understanding, and inspire action.

Through engaging, accessible content, and a commitment to open dialogue, we strive to demystify complex concepts and galvanise a global community ready to challenge the entrenched narratives that have led us astray. As we chart this course together, let us be guided by the belief that another world is not only possible but within our reach, forged through the power of care, knowledge, and unified action.

This journey requires us to stand together to weave a new narrative, one that acknowledges that the transformation we seek must be inclusive, reaching those who have been historically sidelined. We invite you to join us in this endeavour, to explore the rich landscape of degrowth, and to be part of crafting a new narrative for our collective future—one that speaks to the heart of our shared humanity and to the essence of what it means to live well on a finite planet.

We are mere humans. It's pretty likely that there are errors, misrepresentations, omissions or other faults on our part. We sincerely apologise in advance but genuinely encourage you to point them out!

We are constantly seeking input, feedback, and contributions from our global community, striving to make our platform a space where everyone feels welcome to share, learn, and grow.

We are especially seeking input from historically marginalised societies that usually don't get their voices heard. Decolonising degrowth is an active process and we hope to play our part.
